Senecus, a soldier of the Roman Ninth Legion, has been turned into an immortal. He live his days quietly through history, becoming a vigilante when needed to protect those around him. In current times he lives in Amsterdam and works as an investor, but melancholy has set in due to his extended life, and he cannot maintain the relationships he craves. His only outlet is hunting criminals. While chasing a suspect, he finds it is actually a jinn. He allies with Michael, the Church’s top assassin, and with Jo, a British research librarian, to hunt supernatural creatures. However, he must go back to America and rescue long-lost descendants, Cherokee shapeshifters, from a Great Serpent after their abduction. He must keep his American family, originating in colonial North Carolina, a secret to ensure their safety. Meanwhile, a nemesis from his Roman days that has turned into a vampire, is also hunting Senecus, and eventually fatally shoots Jo. Senecus must decide whether to turn Jo, upsetting her life completely, or allow her to die.
