Hand of Night

The fourth book in the Realm of Night series picks up as Seth and Viera return to Kaleth just days ahead of the empire's invasion. They have lost the trust of Viera's people and the south however, by arriving in the company of a Nocturne telepath, so their warning of the coming attack is discarded, each of them believed to be pawns of the emperor and traitors to the Venishian cause. Exiled and alone outside the walls of Kaleth, it is up to Seth and his fellow Nocturne traitors to turn the tides of this slaughter and give aid to those who do not desire it, proving once and for all that he is no pawn of his father's. He will soon discover though, that the emperor does not so easily give up on his weapons.
