About This Book
The moment Susan received the anticipated sms for help from her mother, she sent off the five encrypted email messages to MI6, which had been sitting inside her laptop as drafts, for the past two weeks.
Susan had only recently discovered that her mother was once a spy for MI6. But although her mother had told her that her life was in danger and that she suspected some of her old enemies from the cold war were in the village and out to get her, she hadn't anticipated that anything would happen quite so soon.
Nevertheless, she reacted immediately and then set off for her mother's house. On the way there, she was surprised to find her distraught mother sitting at the bus stop, down the road from her house, but completely unable to give her any answers as to what had happened to her.
The police were already at the house when they got there, so Susan explained that her mother had known her life was in danger, but that she didn't think she could give them any further information, as she seemed to be totally traumatized by whatever had happened, which was very unlike her mother, who could usually hold-it all-together, no matter what happened.
The police said they'd found three dead men and that it appeared as if a terrible battle had gone on, as there was blood everywhere. They also admitted that they didn't know who was responsible for killing the men..
Susan tentatively asked if they thought her mother had killed the men, but when one of the policeman looked closely at the now shaky old woman standing alongside Susan, he slowly shook his head. So although Susan thought otherwise, because her mother was usually both mentally and physically fit and also had martial arts training, she didn't tell the policeman this.
Susan's main concern now was the way her mother was reacting, so she insisted on them getting her some medical help.
When the men from MI6 arrived later and took over the crime scene, they told Susan that they knew her mother was responsible for killing the men, because her old signature from the past, was written all over the crime scene and that it also showed in the efficient manner in which she'd cleaned up after herself and got rid of her bloody clothing.
The men also told Susan that they would take over and do whatever was necessary to protect her and her mother, as her mother was still one of their best operatives, even though she'd been out of the loop for so many years.
When Susan asked if her traumatized mother would ever recover, they told her she would. They said that people in the field could often cope with incredible danger while the threat was ongoing, but that once the trouble was over, they often fell apart and rolled over and allowed others to take care of the scene.
The men insisted that they both needed counseling and treatment, and said that they would be better off in London at a safe house, where they could protect them.
But after several months of treatment at the British Government's expense, Susan and her mother began to make their own secret plans to get away from MI6 and the constant threat of danger that still followed them around and also lurked at the back of both of their minds.
They never mentioned their plans to anyone, but one day they quietly slipped away to a small Greek island, -a million miles from nowhere and...
