Celebrating a victory with a round of drinks, the four men stumble upon a musketeer, dead from a slash across the throat. What's more, the he is a she who bears a startling resemblance to Anne of Austria, Queen of France. Why would the Queen's double, dressed as a man, be dealt a fatal blow in a dark alley? Not daring to sound the alarm on such a potentially scandalous crime, the Musketeers choose to seek the answer to that question themselves.

With only a cryptic note to go on, Athos, Aramis, Porthos, and D'Artagnan step straight into a trap already marked with titled blood as they unravel what appears to be a shocking conspiracy--a conspiracy rooted in the dark past of one of the four.
