The residents of the little English village would believe almost anything about the goings on up at the Manor House. Anything, that is, except murder. But with the charismatic leader of the strange cult lying dead, is the killer one of his faithful flock -- a lovely runaway heiress, a handsome rogue with questionable credentials or a poor lovestruck fellow who barely speaks a word?

Now it's up to the down-to-earth Chief Inspector Barnaby and his loyal sidekick Sergeant Troy to sort through this unlikely assortment of eccentric believers to come up with some earthly reason why a man of God should be abruptly sent to meet his Maker.
