Mer-ji warriors have chased their enemies, the Idids, to Earth's doorstep. Before their king will sanction putting his own people at risk, he wants to know that they are worthy of the ultimate sacrifice his men might be called upon to make for their sake. To this end, scouts are sent out to see what they can learn about the species.Torin is one of those scouts.Maggie is the Earth woman he finds.Maggie has her own problems. She's on the run from her ex and she's short on everything. She empathizes with his plight, however, and decides to take a chance on helping even though she has a lot of reservations about the huge alien man.
