In this second volume, as King Arthur efforts to further establish a court that upholds the ideals of civility and justice, in Dumnonia to the far southwest reaches of Britannia King Mark rules. To his realm in a time of war a young fighter comes with his deadly spear and sword, Tristram, who becomes that court's champion. Possessed of near peerless prowess he interacts frequently with the Knights of the Round Table and even more so with Isolde the Fair, King Mark's queen. The three are caught by sorcery in a triangle similar to the one Arthur, Gwynevere and Launcelot's relationship shares, yet with one major difference. This triangle shall beleaguer Sir Tristram all of his adventurous life, as his illicit romance with the Dumnonii queen hangs heavy over their heads. Yet the unbreakable love they share propels them ever forward toward a yearned for life together without such suffered strife.
