Whatever It Takes

What must a man do when the world suddenly becomes unrecognizable because of a worldwide sickness? He does whatever it takes to keep his daughter, his grandson, and himself alive from one day to the next. But at the same time he can't give up hope of finding a better life for them all.



Set in an unnamed American city, this novel follows a small family from one surprising event to the next. There are good times and many hard ones when survival is the primary goal.



The first chapter of this novel appeared as a story in the Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine January-February 2022 edition.



About the Author



Michael Z. Lewin is an award-winning novelist and short story writer. He first came to the attention of the mystery world with his Indianapolis-set series about private detective, Albert Samson. Indy policeman Leroy Powder soon followed. Mike has also written stand-alone mysteries set in Indiana, where he grew up, as well as a series of novels and stories set in Bath, England, where he lives now. The Bath works follow the adventures of a detective agency run as a family business. Other books include a novel narrated by God, and a short story collection narrated by a stray dog. In 2021 he completed a short dystopian novel and a long dick-lit novel. His work, including some of thirteen radio dramas written for the BBC, has been widely translated.



After graduating high school in Indianapolis Mike moved to New York when he was eighteen. A decade later he moved even farther east to England.
