We Are the Hunted

"My name is Anna, and I am a werewolf." I long to say these words out loud, although I know I'll never be able to. Wolf is a loose description of what we turned into but 'werewolf' was a name my people, my pack, had adopted long ago. Back in a more peaceful time. Before we were constantly looking over our shoulder, moving frequently and always afraid. After all, there is only so long you can try to fit into a society where you don't belong, a society that hates your very existence. My father is the leader of our pack, an honor that is passed down through our family from parent to eldest child. Our numbers have dwindled down so low though, that, even though every one expects me to take over for him someday, I'm afraid we won't survive as a pack long enough for me to get the chance.
