Delisa Hutchinson is the black girl who crashes her car outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Mark Jenkins is the white man who finds her car leaning up against a tree, her head bleeding. So starts VOLUNTEERS. With the state leaning toward secession in the midst of The Second American Civil War, Delisa, her brother, DeShawn, Mark, his sister, Sue and their father, Matt, all find themselves in the middle of unending violence and hatred as events spiral to a suspense-filled conclusion. With the state leaning toward secession, what can these few people do that will end the violence and the way the secessionists are maneuvering the state into a willingness to leave the Union?
