About This Book

This is a novel that picks up where SMOKE and MURDERS left off. It follows the life, mostly, of the lieutenant, Bill Kenny, that actually ran the day to day operation of the Vinyard Police force in that story.

After He, and the police chief, are fired for various illegal offenses, that has gone on for years, he must find another way of making a living. Since there is little chance of him working in the area of the town of Vinyard because of the newspaper publicity, TV stories and radio reports of their schemes, he decides to try the resort community of Bondurant. He has never been there , although it is only an hours drive from Vinyard, he is amazed to find it is also a town as well as a resort.

Bill Kenny is now a single and foot-loose newly widowed man on the prowl. He meets a sexy waitress and they develop a steamy romance. One she believes has some longevity to it but thoughts not shared by him.

In the meantime, the judge from the previous novel, meets a bad end and his widow finds the young man the judge hired to clean up the property appealing. Since he is grieving the only person in his life that gave him a chance, the newly widowed judges wife decides she must shake him out of his depression and grief. A week at the Bondurant Lodge she decides will do them both good and they set off.
