About This Book

This is the rewritten second edition of The Wages of Gin, a memoir that is mostly "faction" but part fiction. Any resemblance to actual people is meant to seem entirely coincidental. The book shares my experiences with people I've worked for and with and it describes jobs I have held. I toiled away in high school and college just like you, and I was forced to serve several autocrats in the jobs I held after graduation, just like you. I believe you will relate to my experiences in newspaper and magazine publishing, advertising, and e-commerce during the halcyon three-martini lunch days of the Sixties, Seventies, Eighties, the no more long lunch Nineties, and the can't afford lunch anymore Two Thousands. I do not mean to encourage the murder of autocrats, although it can be therapeutic to eliminate them in the privacy of your dreams. If you are suffering a bad boss now, I hope this memoir provides some comic relief.  Cheers!
