Lawrence Kingston has been summoned to the bedside of a coma patient, the victim of a hit and run. The man is muttering strange and disturbing things about a rose-hunting expedition in China, and it's thought that Lawrence, a retired botany professor, might be able to help. Before Lawrence can decipher the message, the patient dies, and Lawrence becomes determined to unravel a mystery that began with a fatal plunge from the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain—and continues with a murder much closer to home.

Tracking down the other members of the expedition, Lawrence uncovers clues surrounding a valuable antique and a secret conspiracy, but when suspects become victims, Lawrence knows he's running out of time. Can he identify a killer hiding in plain sight before he follows the trail leading to his own untimely death?
