The Tiger's Shadow

Betty misses England. She misses her friends, the calm rain patting the leaves in the garden, the cool of the summer evenings.

She'll be going back soon. The British are leaving India. Her Indian cousins walk taller with their independence. They tell her she can't understand: Betty is too young, too British.

But Betty has a secret. She has seen a shadow, that promises her power and strength and maybe, just maybe, the adults in her life will start to take her seriously.

It will just cost her some of her tiger soul...

This story is set in "The Shadow Wars" series, and is part of the novel, "The Guardian Hound."

This story takes place during what is now called "The Week of Long Knives" in Calcutta, in 1947.
