The Spoken Word

This is the story of Willy Freeman, better known as Spokes. He is a fifteen year old with an amazing talent for imitating voices. When a practical joke backfires it launches him on a cross-country journey. On the run from mobsters, he leaves the Brooklyn housing projects he calls home and takes refuge in the Bohemian world of Greenwich Village nightclubs. But trouble follows and sends him packing, on the run from murder and guilt. Fate lands him in Southern California at the dawning of new age spiritualism. Through a bizarre turn of events, he finds himself hailed as The Boy Mystic, channeler of the spirit guide and teacher known as Sayer.
