The Spanish Butler

A wealthy English investor and his American wife are murdered within days of returning to England after years abroad. A valuable diamond ring is also missing. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are asked to aid in the investigation by the young Inspector Hopkins. It is up to Holmes to unravel the mystery, but Watson too finds himself pulled in as he does a bit of investigating on his own. This is a novella length story typical of the Holmes tales.
