Gerry Stewart is informed that he has terminal colon cancer. Not wanting his friends and family to see him waste away, he goes to New York City to commit suicide. While there, he meets a girl and finds a strange, almost magical object. The events that follow make him question whether suicide is the answer. Before his terminal illness was diagnosed, he was the primary expert on "The Bloodletter." This serial killer is a split personality psychopath whose mark is that he extracts as much blood as possible from his female victims. This story contains mystery, romance, political maneuvering, and personal agony over the fact that one of the victims of "The Bloodletter" was Gerry's wife.
