The Shocking Discovery

Meet Tootie! She's a lively thirteen-year-old with loads of energy, imagination, and enthusiasm. Often she's headstrong and takes matters into her own hands. The story of Tootie and her family is set in the 1920s.

Tootie's father, Donald, and sister, Pearl, cannot adjust to life on a neglected farm. They give up and return to the city. That leaves Mother, Tootie, and Buddy to eke out a living.

Complicating their life is a bank robbery the day Father and Pearl leave town. Of course, Donald McCarthy is the prime suspect. Then a tornado leaves most of the McCarthy's farm buildings in shambles.

On her way into town, Tootie discovers a piece of evidence that will prove her father's innocence. But she must plan carefully and remain quiet until the sheriff returns and can make the arrest.
