The Reparation

Tony Cummings, a descendant of slaves, is offered financial reparations by Sarah Johnson, a descendant of those who enslaved Tony's ancestors. Should he accept the money, or reject it on principle?The offer throws Tony and his wife into turmoil of questioning, leading to a trip from their home in Minneapolis to Tony's hometown of Louisville. Seeking answers, Tony enlists his father to travel with him to the valley in Tennessee where their enslaved ancestors toiled. The journey eventually leads Tony to the Kentucky hamlet where his freed forebears finally settled, and to the church where they worshiped in freedom.Along the way Tony discovers family secrets that blur the lines between slaveholder and slave, and force him to question his very identity.
