The Rag Doll Murder

New York, 1935 --

Jamey Flamingo was just another doll in the rag trade until someone decided to strangle her -- and to use her own silk stockings to do it. A pretty face from Tulsa, she had acquired her fancy name when she started modeling clothes and posing for billboard ads. Along the way she must have acquired an enemy, too.

That's what Harry MacNeil thinks. When the police book an innocent kid for Flamingo's murder, Harry agrees to get off his bar stool at the Onyx and look for the real killer. After all, the girl asking for his help is Flamingo's sister, and she's no slouch in the looks department herself.

So Harry starts talking -- and listening -- to some of the rag trade's finest. Along the way he chats up a defense lawyer, annoys a D.A., infuriates a cop, and covers more New York City terrain -- from Harlem to City Hall -- than most people see in a lifetime.
