The beautiful Lady Eleanor, mistress of the feckless Prince of Wales, is banished to Godstow Priory by King Edward, eager to be rid of an embarrassment while negotiating his son's betrothal.

Whispers of murder echo through the hallowed halls when Eleanor dies mysteriously. Hugh Corbett, Edward's chief clerk and master spy, is dispatched to solve the riddle. Suspicion falls upon the malicious and cunning new royal favorite, Piers Gaveston. But others also wanted Lady Eleanor dead.
