About This Book

A number of these stories are the work of well-known Vietnamese writers who took part in the Resistance, side by side with the army men and peasants. But many are the record of personal experiences of those who have had little to do with writing.

They were published in the course of the literary contest, "The most outstanding memory of my days in the army," organized by the North Vietnamese People's Army.

It is surprising to see how evocative and full of feeling are these stories which are the work of men and women often without literary experience.

The book was originally published in Hanoi in 1959.
