About This Book

The Official Chaperon: Marjorie Langdon lives with her great-aunt, Madame Yvonett, in Washington, D. C. They have not much money. Marjorie is a secretary for Rear Admiral Lawrence. But, Mrs. Lawrence dies unexpectedly, shortly after revising her will, part of which revoked her bequest of $100,000 to her nephew, Chichester Barnard. Barnard is Marjorie's boyfriend. The signed copy of the codicil cutting Chichester out of the will mysteriously disappears, and Marjorie, trusted confidential secretary to the Admiral is suspected of stealing it. She is summarily fired and, worse, the bank in which her great-aunt had deposited her money fails. Now, not only has she been accused of being a thief, but, if true, is a penniless thief. All Marjorie has left is grit, determination and the doggedness to right a wrong. Becoming a chaperon is a step in that direction. Bad guys, good guys, thievery, deception and, after all that, romance. Who could want more?
