The Lights of Isarn

Skye has always been smart, and she knows that, but for the first time in her life, she was starting to wish she wasn't. At the age of 16, students in the nation of Isarn are tested to see if they have what it takes to become a Light, the new generation of politicians and soldiers. It's an honor to be one, but dangerous. And Skye isn't sure she's ready when she finds out she's just become one. Joined by her newly formed Squadron, hopelessly unqualified Mentor, and a creature she shares a strangely strong connection with, Skye is thrust into a new way of life. And in a time where war and rebellion seem like a sudden possibilities, Skye is forced to decide if she's ready to step up, and take on the role of a Light of Isarn.
