The Light Behind Blue Circles tells of a young man's 3,000-mile journey from South Africa to Kenya and chronicles an inner transformation that encompasses more than the hero's own soul. Even as a boy Peter was enchanted with the African bush he had been introduced to by his South African parents. On a camping trip with his father, a veterinarian, he meets Lekai, a young Maasai seer-to-be, who asks for their help in saving a dear friend. But the rescue mission turns to tragedy when an evil man crosses their path in the bush. Ten years later, Peter remains plagued by the events of that tragic day. Estranged from his father, he tries to hide from his nightmares by working in the dangerous gold mines of South Africa. After narrowly surviving a cave-in, he decides to travel north, beginning a 3,000-mile journey to Maasailand, the place where his lurid visions originate. On his travels he meets devoted new friends, encounters bitter enemies, and experiences hair-raising adventures. He also embarks on a mystical journey into the very core of his existence, desperately trying to prove to himself that he can still make room in his heart for love.
