As a guest, Dr. Watson is observing the induction services of The League of Mendacious Men. To gain admission to the exclusive club a prospective member must tell an original tall tale. The evening begins pleasantly and ends in a violent tragedy. Sherlock Holmes navigates a tale of murder whose solution is lost amid a sea of lies. This is a novella length story typical of the Holmes tales.
