Rene DuBoise has interrupted her Vodou training and returned home to New York City to bury her mother, a victim in a bizarre police shooting. She quickly discovers that her mother's death was orchestrated by a deranged, drug dealing, Paleros sorcerer. However, discovering who is responsible proves far easier than revealing his ultimate plan.
