A man named Kraskin has suddenly appeared in our world. But he is not alone. Something, temporarily amorphous, has followed him. Kraskin is not familiar with this world but has a name that he has recently learned. He walks to a convenience store. He borrows a phone and calls a Professor Robert Trimball. Not long after Kraskin's arrival, a vicious dog begins attacking farm animals. Sheriff Barry Banes organizes a search for the animal, but it is unsuccessful. Weeks later a young boy is abducted. With the animal attacks and the missing child, the sheriff is under pressure to unravel the mystery and save the town. Meanwhile, Reverend Ezekiel Powell basks in the sudden power he has achieved, and the strange light that he assumes is the work of God. Along with his group of followers, he hopes to bring his brand of Christianity to one town at a time.
