Major Jimjoy Earle Wright, secret agent of the Empire, intelligent and highly trained, succeeds too well in overthrowing a military dictatorship and the result is a new government inimical to the Empire. So Jimjoy and his superiors are in disgrace. They want him dead.

After Jimjoy survives two assassination attempts, he begins to realize that his troubles are serious. And that his worst enemies arc his friends.
