About This Book

When lonely spinster, Pru Barnard, discovers she's not alone but has a family in the form of a distant cousin, she's thrilled, particularly when he invites her to visit him. Although initially excited, Pru is soon caught in a maelstrom of seething tensions. Emotions erupt when her cousin is found hanged, his body dangling outside his bedroom window. The authorities immediately call his death a suicide, despite the fact that her cousin was afraid of heights and would never tie a noose around his neck and fling himself out of a window. The evidence clearly points to murder.

Desperate to learn the truth, Pru sends for her old friend, Knighton Gaunt. But even Knighton is blocked at every turn by family members who seem to prefer the scandal of suicide to an investigation into their dark secrets.

But Pru and Knighton won't be deterred by increasingly violent threats. They are willing to risk everything, including their growing love, to expose the killer of Pru's cousin and her last hope for a home and family.
