Lord Eldrich is the last mage. A mysterious and menacing figure, he has dedicated his unnaturally long life to eradicating all vestiges of magic from the world, for he has had an apocalyptic vision of a terrible cataclysm brought about by the continued practice of his arts.

Desperate, Lord Eldrich summons all who have served him to find and destroy Anna--and among these seekers is a young man who knows Anna, Erasmus Flattery.

Though Erasmus knows that defying the mage's orders will bring torturous death, his resentment of Eldrich and his attraction to Anna tempt him to rebellion. But many people have served Lord Eldrich's cause without either knowledge or consent. And Erasmus will undergo a magical and spiritual journey in the mage's service which will cause him to question all he holds to be true--and rock the very foundations of his world.
