It's no mystery to Marley Dearcorn what wiped out an entire colony of black-tailed prairie dogs on the Deep Creek Ranch. The moment she sees the devastation, Marley knows they were killed by the plague. But when she discovers the mangled body of a handsome local cowboy hidden in the brush not far from the colony, the last thing on her mind is a contagious disease. The cowboy's boss and the crew he worked with are far too evasive and hostile, and the more she digs into their lives the stranger it gets. They seem determined to throw her off the trail and it's clear at least one of them knows a lot more than he's saying.
