H. C. Bailey was an extremely popular author of detective fiction. His most famous creation, Reggie Fortune – the protaganist of 'The Bottle Party', first published in 1940 - featured in no less than twelve collections of short stories between 1920 and 1940. Many crime and detective stories, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive.
