The Best Laid Plans

They say the best laid plans...

 Spencer Hayden is lying to himself. He's been telling himself for years that he doesn't need a family. He doesn't need anyone. He just got out of the military and he thinks that the freedom to go and do whatever he wants, whenever he wants, is going to make him happy. 
The plan is to drive around the country, working the odd job here or there so that he doesn't deplete his savings. 

Then he lands in Sunny Bend, Wyoming and meets Emmy Lou Harris. 

Emmy Lou is happy with her life. Sure, she's a little lonely ever since her grandparents died, but she has everything she needs; a good job and friends. 

Then Spencer walks into her bookstore and turns her world upside down.
