With her brother and sister-in-law out of town, Salome Saunders has been left to mind the woodworking business—in the midst of a town crisis. Bishop Burkeholder is in jail, partially thanks Salome's detecting skills, and the community still in shock. The Burkeholder farm is the largest in the village, and will be claimed by a commercial hog farm if no heir can be found—an heir last seen in Argentina. So when the newcomer Mr. Lazarus comes to the shop with an antique cabinet to be restored, Salome is happy for the diversion—as well as the chance to linger a bit more with the handsome new preacher. But as Salome finds herself falling in love with the Mr. Lazarus, the community around her is falling apart.
