Taxed to the Max

A light mystery, "Taxed to the Max" shows what really happens in property tax and tag offices. For clerk Corrie Caters, the only thing that makes the tax office's grouchy customers bearable is the sweet old tax commissioner. And he gets himself murdered. County officials want to appoint Corrie temporary tax commissioner, but seeing as where someone has just killed the last person that held that position, she is hesitant. That is until the man who jilted her at the altar in front of two hundred people tells her she mustn't accept the job. Like any self-respecting Georgia woman, Corrie promptly takes the job just to spite him. The prime suspect has an alibi, so now obtuse deputies guard Corrie 24/7, a state auditor is breathing down her neck, and a druggy IT guy is doing heaven knows what to the tax digest. The murderer may not get Corrie, but dealing with customers wanting all kinds of illegal stuff might be the death of her.
