There are lines you don't cross. That's how you live your life. You keep looking down to check the lines and make sure no matter how nuts things get, you're on the right side of the line.


Jane believed that. She really did. But in the face of the plaintive, seductive importunings of the men her life: her failed pot-dealer of an ex-husband, her teenage son trying to make sense of his mother's contradictory admonitions, her new husband, a cop who bets the ranch on a horse, based on the look in his eyes, and finally, a guy who robs banks, Jane always seems to find herself careening back and forth across those lines you just don't cross.
