About This Book

This novel, Summer Resort Corruption, is a prequel to Joe Zang's first book about Ocean City: Hard to Starboard, which basically took place in the year 2011. In that first novel. Five long time close friends in a Summer tourist resort suddenly find their laid-back but successful lives in a turmoil when one of them plus his girlfriend are murdered. The reader is taken from the venue of a deep sea fishing tournament, where hundreds of thousands of dollars can be won in the Calcutta betting, to a premeditated double murder. Bernie Rumgate, one of the five, is a private detective asked by the city's Mayor to head-up solving the case. Rumgate soon finds he must prosecute a close associate and ends up helping the defense on the QT.
Those five close friends, Bernard Bayard Rumgate, Butch Timmons, Gerry Hammond, Art Gibbs, and Steve Keyser reappear as high school students in this prequel during a flash back to a time beginning in the year 1955. Summer Resort Corruption is more historical fiction than murder mystery; chock full of vignettes. It follows the World War II vain: "Eat, drink, and make love; for tomorrow we die!"
