About This Book
In Volume 2 of the Alarai Chronicles, Jeff Friedrick and Carl Jorgenson set out to find allies in what promises to be a battle for personal survival and for the survivial of their new country, the Northern Kingdom. Powerful invaders from across the Great Southern Ocean have returned and once again lay claim to all that Jeff and Carl have struggled and fought to save. The men have found love and deep satisfaction in life where, on Earth, there had been neither. Now they must put it all on the line again.
There are no natural allies close to the Northern Kingdom, and only one potential ally on the entire continent. Zomar. A mythical country of contrasts so extreme that it is hard to believe anything the stories relate. A deadly land, it is said. A land where outsiders are not welcome and do not long survive. A fierce and warrior-like people. But it is the only option available and the men decide to go for it.
Taking ship in Hochberg, a seafaring city far to the west of Rugen, capital city of the Northern Kingdom, the men set sail in a rebuilt schooner. No charts, no local knowledge, only stories of sea monsters, great storms and great fear of ever being out of sight of land. But that is what they have to do for Zomar is over 2,000 miles away.
The voyage south is long, storm-ridden and their fear is stoked by the appearance of animal that would have fit right in during Earth's Mesozoic Period. Dinosaurs. Sea-going dinosaurs. So far showing no interest in the Gilnora. Nearly arrived at Zomar they are attacked by pirates, barely escape, and are then driven far south and completely off the only map they have by a storm. And their world changes again.
Now in tropic waters they repair battle damage to the Gilnora and head east in trade winds. Shortly they witness a battle close by. Intrigued, Jeff stops the Gilnora to try and discover what is going on beneath the surface. Suddenly, both men are brought to their knees by a call for help. Diving into the sea with harpoon they take the part of two creatures that have been surrounded by predators. Saving the two, healing their wounds, the men are irresistibly drawn into an emotional union that cannot be broken without putting life at risk. Shaken to the core, accompanied by the mer people, Jeff sends the Gilnora surging east and north to meet their destiny in Zomar.
Arrived in Zomar, becoming aware of a building insurrection, they are met by hostile forces at every turn. Finding friends they see no alternative but to take sides as open revolution explodes and a battle for control fo Al Harad sweeps city streets and the palace.
In the end Jeff and Carl's intervention makes the difference and they are heralded as heroes. But should they introduce the mer people to the Zomar public? It is their heritage, but the risks are daunting. That decision must wait.
