About This Book
Zane Yancy had been a cop for a long time. After being ambushed and shot, he was forced into retirement where he retreated to a bottle and self-pity. Overhearing a conversation in a cheap off-Bourbon street bar, he finds himself drawn into a new world filled with old style characters. When super villain, Alexander Fontenot, is murdered and officials try to cover it up by labeling the death as suicide, Zane, reluctant to the idea of taking on the role of a private detective, dragging his feet and complaining, is brought in to investigate by MacAllen Thibadaux, the parish sheriff.
Surrounding himself with a cast of characters, including some of his suspects, he confronts the bad guys headed up by Parish Judge, Antonio Richard who have developed a scheme to rip the government off of millions of dollars. Yancy, who had spent twenty years pounding the beat in New Orleans without once pulling his weapon, is forced to kill in order to save his own life. The story is actually several mysteries rolled into one; Travis O’Neal, a young Chicagoan is searching for his natural parents, why was Alexander Fontenot murdered and who murdered him, why were Alexander Fontenot and his gang trying to get Mean Tarascon evicted from her property and finally, what was the reasoning behind the ever-growing number of dead bodies piling up in Thibadaux’s parish?
