Remnants of a Withered Day

Single mother, Detective Inspector Effie Archer, is struggling – with an overbearing bully for a boss; an inability to balance her work and personal life; a mother who criticises her at every opportunity; a shortage of manpower; and five murder cases that are more than the sum of their parts: A dead prostitute who she thinks is the victim of a prolific serial killer plaguing Hammersmith; a boy of twelve who has been stabbed in the heart; an old couple who have been brutally tortured and murdered in their home; an English reporter beaten to death by her Russian ex-husband who they can't seem to find; and a tramp on Platform 2 in Hammersmith tube station who has been kicked to death by three men. She just needs a little help to get her through this difficult time, and cocaine seems to offer the salvation she's been searching for.
