About This Book

How do you replace a dead child?
A dead baby is discovered at the Aldershot Garrison Church. But in order to identify the baby, Crane and DI Anderson have to find out who the mother is. A visit to Kerry, an army widow, convinces Crane her baby is alive. But little do they know that Kerry is going to great lengths to conceal her loss.

Pulled away by another case, Crane has to shake off his suspicions about Kerry and concentrate on soldiers smuggling heroin from Afghanistan. As Crane begins to uncover a drug deal, he is faced with a tough case to prove. But before Crane and the local police can pounce, he is confronted with a development in the case that still haunts him. A child has been snatched in the street. What has Crane missed? Can he find the missing child, snatched by a mother who won't go down without a fight?

Sgt Major Crane, is a detective prepared to do whatever it takes in the pursuit of justice. For lovers of Angela Marsons' DI Kim Stone, Robert Bryndza's Detective Erika Foster, Robert Dugoni's Tracy Crosswhite, Peter James' Roy Grace, Peter Robinson's DCI Banks and Ian Rankin's Rebus.

I thought the story was cleverly structured to generate sympathy for the women who serve their countries along with the men who sign up for the job. Diane Rapp Author
