About This Book

Rainie Lovingston is a thirty-something single woman struggling with the usual challenges of an ordinary life: maintaining a friendship with her gay ex-husband, periodically dragging her drunken brother out of the local bar, avoiding “aura cleansings” offered by her hippie mom, and making sure her pet iguana gets his fresh veggies every day. She cheerfully provides home care for the elderly and writes poetry on the side, sometimes on bathroom walls if she can’t get published any other way. In spite of a bit of restlessness, she’s pretty content with her life. That is until Jack, an ex-special forces guy clothed in taut t-shirts and simmering bad-assitude talks her into taking a part-time job at the local private investigation firm where he works. He assures her it’s an easy gig, just running data base searches and doing a few interviews. It doesn't take much for Jack to smooth-talk Rainie into assisting him on a couple of minor cases, one that has her going undercover to an S&M club, another that gets her blown out a fourth story window. She realizes she needs to just say no to Jack, but when her elderly client’s daughter sends three men to kill her she’s glad she has Jack on speed dial.
