About This Book

MURDER AS PERFORMANCE ART
Milwaukee sculptor Soren Berendorf was improvising on the grand piano when his masterwork—a clump of fifteen yellow chairs suspended from the ceiling—came crashing down on him. Not an announced part of the evening's fun, but from what Dr. Maxene St. Clair learns, Berendorf cheated his friends, his lovers, and his dealers, and deserved every one of those chairs.

Nevertheless, St. Clair is curious about the death and the results of the autopsy. Curious, too, about the subsequent series of deaths and near-misses that suddenly keep the emergency room at St. Agnes hopping.

A hooker's demise, a double hit-and-run shooting, and attacks on St. Clair herself all seem in some persistently elusive way to connect with Berendorf's death. With a little help from Rolondo, the city's sharpest pimp, and Detective Grabowski, Milwaukee's cutest and smartest cop, St. Clair tries to put all the pieces together before the killer strikes again....
