About This Book

In Australia's Great Sandy Desert Payu the Dingo returns from the hunt to find her mate dead and her pups gone. Devastated, she wanders the empty desert grief-stricken. A scent comes to her nose, she follows it to a human camp. A whimper from inside the tent, could it be her pups? She creeps in, a blanket twitches, but outside a human approaches! Payu seizes the blanket bundle and flees. Safe, she stops to rest, but finds she has taken not a dingo pup but a human baby. She is confused and undecided until the baby suckles and her maternal instincts take hold. Payu becomes determined to keep the little human. But a naked baby cannot survive the harsh desert conditions. She has heard stories of a mystery land of green grass and flowing water to the North. She must go and find that land. This is the story of her journey, of her new friends Ngur the White Dingo and Ritta the Roo, the other animals who help her along the way, and of the adventures and dangers they encounter.
