About This Book

Claudia drives a taxi and paints, but not necessarily in that order. She must face a new form of violence in her adopted city of Raleigh, a kind of violence that bring back dark echoes from her past, when she was living in Haiti with her family.

This story was first published in the World Fantasy Award-winning anthology "Paper Cities."

"Surreal in a lucid way, this story captures the nightmare that Claudia suffers through. A well-told tale with a visual arts sensibility." —Marshall Payne, The Fix

"The story is about being a foreigner and recovering your roots, culture-wise. Very interesting magic system and quite nice portrayal of Haitian myth. The end is a delight." — Post-Weird Thoughts
