About This Book

Suddenly the road came to a dead end. Slamming on the brakes, Doug wrenched the wheel around and came to a skidding halt as he lifted one arm to shield his eyes from the powerful headlights and flashing lights of the patrol car now in front of him. After the death of his parents, Doug Smith fears that he and his brother and two sisters will be separated by the foster system. Rather than face the break-up of what's left of his family, they run away to Perth, Australia, with a family friend, Tori Goodwin. For over a year they evade the authorities and lead relatively normal lives, but then Detective Sergeant Scott Backer comes after them, and a very large net begins to close in. They hit the road, unaware that their actions could jeopardize a federal government prosecution case. At first, dying their hair, changing their look, and living a runaway life seems fun. But soon, the stress and paranoia begins to wear on the kids, especially Doug. For a cop working on a simple missing persons/child welfare case, why does Scott Backer have such an amazing array of technical backup from the highest levels of the police department? Doug knows the detective isn't being straight with him, so what's he hiding?
