Caught up in the whirl of finally having a life again, accountant and recreational golfer Cleopatra Jones nearly misses her mother's increasingly odd behavior. But after a very public blowup with her arch rival, Mama is rigid with fury. Two days later Mama's rival is dead, a victim of a hit and run in the church parking lot, and the police finger Mama as the main suspect.

Turns out, Mama's rival filed a police report about her terroristic threats, funneling the murder investigation toward Mama. Cleo is dead certain the police are wrong about her mother's guilt and sets out to clear Mama's good name.
