While no tears were shed at news of the shooting death of tribal attorney Judah Boiseneau, someone is guilty of his murder. That someone is believed to be his cousin Benny Peliqun, who'd fallen in love with Judah's wife. Now Benny has fled into the nearly impenetrable wilderness of the Red Cliff Reservation in northern Wisconsin.

Under pressure from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, reservation Police Chief David Lameraux hires Karen "Tracker" Charboneau, a Chippewa native and ceramics artist whose uncanny tracking skills are now put to the test as she tries to pick up Benny's trail. But another grisly murder exposes the truth about the illegal activities taking root in this ancient forest—where a ruthless killer is now tracking Tracker, determined she won't leave these remote northern woods alive.
