Master Chef Auguste Didier, who has proven to have as fine a talent for sniffing out murder as for stirring up a sauce d'ail, has escaped from London for a much needed holiday in the sunny paradise of his native Cannes.

Little does Auguste expect to run into his old friend Inspector Egbert Rose of Scotland Yard--hot on the trail of a London jewel thief with a passion for Faberge eggs. It seems six exquisite eggs, gifts from the Grand Duke Igor of Russia to each of six lovely ladies with whom he had, enjoyed discreet affairs, have been stolen from the ladies in question. It is the existence of a seventh egg, reportedly in the possession of well-known courtesan La Belle Mimosa, that brings Rose to Cannes. And Auguste--who is already quite busy renewing his own affair with a lovely ballerina, while making sure the Prince of Wales is suitably fed at the Cannes Cricket Club--is about to be drawn into vet another high society drama of mischief, mistresses ... and murder.
